The Mount Kilimanjaro hike

It all started with a lovely morning with the sun shining lightening up my bedroom and forcing me wide awake. I had not prepared for the trip and we were leaving in one hour, I rushed myself packing whatever pair of warm cloths and socks I could find and ran down to the kitchen for breakfast. My mum already started complaining and if there was one thing she hated, it was getting late. We had our breakfast and off we went to the airport.

Leaving behind our everyday busy lives behind me, my mother, father and brother had decided to go for a family trip for us to bond and spend time together with each other and this is why this year we decided to hike Africa’s tallest mountain which rises 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro. One hour later we landed at Mount Kilimanjaro airport and we were all hyped u for the adventure. We got to the starting point of the mountain hike and my family and I were fully prepared to face anything that was brought to us.

We started our hike and the wind was cold so we had to cover ourselves in warm cloths to keep the frostbite away. It took us eight hours to get to our campsite called Shira campsite. The sun had set and my mum was preparing dinner by the campfire while my brother and I sat by our tents gazing at the stars above us, I was just about to say something and my mum called us for dinner. Dinner was lovely and having it while it was still hot which made it even tastier. Soon after having dinner we all sat by the campfire talking about our fun times back at home. It was bed time soon, so we all wished each other good night and fell asleep.

The next day starting our hike exactly at dawn having a cup of Kenya’s best coffee straight from the farm had energized us for the day. We started the day early because we had to get to the peak of the mountain. The day was long but we managed to reach the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. We were all tired but it was all worth it because there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the snow looked amazing and the view took our breath away. After taking my family pictures, it was time to get back down and head home.

The journey was very tiring but we did not let that stop us from having fun.
